Class will cover all aspects of figure and portrait drawing (primarily in charcoal) and painting in oil. Basics as well as advanced concepts will be covered, so it is appropriate for students of any ability level.

Foundations of Oil Painting 8 Week Class

Class will meet Wednesdays 6-8:30pm.

Foundations of Oil Painting is ideal for someone who wants to start oil painting, for those who want to learn some new techniques, or for those with oil painting experience who need more information on the proper way to use their materials. Students will work both from life and from photos with the opportunity to explore personalized subject matter after working through initial projects.

Lacey Lewis will teach a 6 week class where she shares her approach to drawing the nude figure from life in charcoal. Students will learn many ways to dynamically view and analyze the figure to achieve accurate proportions without overly relying on height and width measurements.

Bargue and Cast Drawing 8 Week Class

Eight 2-Hour Sessions
Class Fee: $215 includes materials

The French Academies employed a method of teaching basic drawing skills to their beginning students in which they copied increasingly difficult lithographs from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course before moving on to drawing plaster casts. This method ensured a logical progression in difficulty from basic shape-making, measuring, and shading techniques from a flat reference to a three-dimensional reference.
