Class description: This class is great for beginners as well as for artists who want to increase the sense of depth, form, and accuracy in their drawings or paintings. Techniques for creating a proportionally solid drawing will be covered before moving on to the subject of light logic and how to create the illusion of depth and space. We will use photographs, master artist’s drawings, and and still lives to learn how to apply these concepts to both 2D and 3D references.
While lessons will be focused on charcoal, skills learned in this class will be applicable to any medium. Subject matter offered will include man-made and natural still life objects, landscapes, portraits, figures, cityscapes and interiors. In addition to numerous studies, students will have the opportunity to produce large finished charcoal drawings with step-by-step guidance.
