Figurative Drawing and Painting

Class will meet 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7, 6/14, and 6/21 6-8:30pm
Plus Nelson-Atkins Museum Visit TBD by Student Vote
Class will cover all aspects of figure drawing (primarily in charcoal) and painting in oil. Basics as well as advanced concepts will be covered, so it is appropriate for students of any ability level. Models will be our primary reference, but photos, images of art, etc., will serve as reference as well.
This 8 week format focused on the figure only will allow us to delve deeper into drawing techniques, the structure of the human form and anatomical landmarks, and to try various painting approaches including glazing and multi-week poses.
Concepts covered will include:
- Gesture and proportion
- Accurate and expressive contours
- Light logic
- Anatomical landmarks and structure
- Skin tone palettes and mixing
- Various oil painting techniques
- Limitations and advantages of photographic references
