Learn to create vibrant skin tones with only FOUR pigments: Red, Green, Black, and White in this two day workshop. With just these four paints, it's possible to give the illusion of all hues of skin tones whether more yellow, orange, pink, or cooler blues and greens.

Basics as well as advanced concepts will be covered, so it is appropriate for students of any ability level. Lacey Lewis will teach a 6 week class where she shares her approach to drawing the nude figure from life in charcoal. Students will learn many ways to dynamically view and analyze the figure to achieve accurate proportions without overly relying on height and width measurements.

Eight 2-Hour Sessions
Class Fee: $215 includes materials

The French Academies employed a method of teaching basic drawing skills to their beginning students in which they copied increasingly difficult lithographs from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course before moving on to drawing plaster casts. This method ensured a logical progression in difficulty from basic shape-making, measuring, and shading techniques from a flat reference to a three-dimensional reference.

Class description:  This class is great for beginners as well as for artists who want to increase the sense of depth, form, and accuracy in their drawings or paintings. Techniques for creating a proportionally solid drawing will be covered before moving on to the subject of light logic and how to create the illusion of depth and space. We will use photographs, master artist’s drawings, and and still lives to learn how to apply these concepts to both 2D and 3D references.

While lessons will be focused on charcoal, skills learned in this class will be applicable to any medium. Subject matter offered will include man-made and natural still life objects, landscapes, portraits, figures, cityscapes and interiors. In addition to numerous studies, students will have the opportunity to produce large finished charcoal drawings with step-by-step guidance.
